A 3 day workshop (1 research day and 2 full days in the studio) where we explore the methods and motivations of draughtsman, painter and sculptor Edgar Degas. Try your hand at a variety of art-making techniques including pastel drawing, monoprinting and clay modelling.

This new 3 day workshop will introduce you to the artist dubbed an Impressionist but dismissed the label applied to him in order to take a more radical approach to his art-making.

From bleak brothel scenes to his beloved ballerinas and much more, discover how Degas pushed his practice in both techniques and subject matter then have a go responding to similar themes using Degas’ practice as your starting point.

The course also includes a research day where we will examine Degas’ artwork in the National Gallery before collecting images and completing preliminary sketches and studies in Central London. Back in the studio we will create work in response to our research as well as subjects loved by Degas. The course also includes an afternoon drawing / painting a nude model.

Course level: intermediate / advanced – some drawing and painting experience essential. Get in touch if you’re not sure of your level / suitability.
