Enjoy a workshop comprising 2 full days in the studio – explore the techniques and ideas of masterful draughtsman and painter Egon Schiele and his particular approach to drawing the body.

Working with nude models, discover how line, mark-making, point of view, proportion, colour and more shaped his work then experiment with the techniques further to make them your own.

Coinciding with the blockbuster Klimt / Schiele exhibition  at the Royal Academy which opens in November, this year marks the centenary of Schiele’s death at the age of 28.

Talented from childhood, Schiele later adapted his taught academic style into a more radical portrayal of the human body. Learn how Schiele achieved his unique take on the nude and who and what influenced his work.

Working with both male and female models (nude and clothed poses), we will consider specific factors in Schiele’s approach through a series of short drawing and painting exercises. There will also be time to develop the work further.

Course level: intermediate / advanced – some drawing and painting experience essential. Some life drawing experience useful but not essential. Get in touch if you’re not sure of your level / suitability. A visit to the Klimt / Schiele exhibition before the course is advisable – join us at our social event on Thursday 29 November or visit in your free time.
